Awe Toad (2023)
Metal, soil, acorns, old leafing 14k clay, paper, donated wax, artist’s hair, oil paint, cellulose paste
Through my sculpture, I elucidate animals like a toad that is otherwise neglected or lumped together with more widely recognized animals like frogs.
But really, I wanted to highlight their awe-inspiring presence characterized by contentedness and maternal strength fused with original love. They seemed to only be concerned with being there in stillness, regardless of whether I was near or far, as if just ‘being’ was the only thing that mattered.
